Our Goal |
|
While the FIA has not officially recognized the speed of 145.607 as the international steam powered land speed record, we at BSCC acknowledge the time and effort that was put forth to obtain this speed and honor it as the record to be exceeded. The team’s goal is to break three steam powered records: The Guinness, National and World Record during their time at Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah in September 2008. The UK preparation testing will take place during August at Thorney Island, Portsmouth. Bonneville, is a dry salt lake bed situated in Utah, USA. The location was selected as the ideal place to achieve the records due to the type surface, timeframe and size of the track required.
While the most obvious goal of this project is to bring another land speed record to Britain there is a deeper and longer term portion of the project. We hope this follow on goal will have a significant impact on the future of automobile technology. After achieving the records, the car will retire to the National Motor Museum Trust at Beaulieu. It is our sincere hope that we can influence the next generation of engineers and designers to take an ecological approach to solving problems and to remember that no matter how old the technology, there are always new and better ways to put that technology to work for mankind. |
